The awe and mystery of the night of all nights is never more exemplified than in this setting of Silent Night for women's chorus and organ (or piano) and optional handbells. Beginning at a hushed pianissimo, the dynamics grow to a glorious fortissimo at the close of the third verse. This setting features the sopranos in unison on the first verse. Three-part women sing the second and third with minimal divisi into four-part harmony. After the climax, the work diminishes to the quiet solemnity heard at the beginning. This piece is sure to be the highlight of any holiday program or worship service. An SATB version of the piece is available from Beautiful Star Publishing.
