Imitations is a saxophone quartet that consists of three movements. Each movement is imitating different styles of music. Movement one is a contemporary style written in sonata allegro form. Movement two is reminiscent of rock ballades, as well as baroque counterpoint. Movement three incorporates jazz and twelve bar blues with a section open for improvised soloing. Each movement contains the imitations theme, a six note syncopated line found first in the entrance of the soprano saxophone.
