According to the traditional interpretation, the notebook was given to Wolfgang as a present on his seventh birthday,
Oct. 31st 1762, from his father Leopold.
Wolfgang Plath writes in the preface to volume IX/27/1 of the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe (p.IX): "The dedication inscription, allegedly written by Leopold Mozart and dated 31. Oktober 1762, turned out to be a crude forgery.
