The history of W. F. Bach's Duets F. 54 is rooted in the 18th century and is part of a collection of six duets for two flutes, including F. 5559. The exact dates of composition for these duets are not definitively known, but there is strong evidence that the last two duets, including F. 54, were composed in the last decade of W.F. Bach's life when he lived in Berlin.
