Ballad of Tsar Saltan, His Son, the Glorious and Mighty Knight Prince Guidon, and of the Fair Swan-Princess for flute choir was inspired by Alexander Pushkins The Tale of Tsar Saltana story Ive loved for its magic, drama, and vivid imagery. I was drawn to the fairytales emotional depth and fantastical elements, and I wanted to explore how I could retell it through music, using the voices of a flute ensemble. Russian folk music played a big role in shaping this work. Ive always been captivated by its rich melodies, earthy rhythms, and expressive storytelling. In this piece, I tried to blend those folk elements with the arc of Pushkins talemixing lyrical lines, lively dance motifs, and moments of quiet reflection to follow the journey of the tsarina and her son, Prince Gvidon.
