Traditionally, the plainchant "Victimae Paschali Laudes" is sung as the Easter sequence hymn on Easter Sunday.

The chant is irregular, and thus difficult to set as a metric prelude. Adjusting the chant slightly by recasting it into triple time, one can be faithful to the familiar melody. I set all three verse of the chant, although did add repeated sections.

The lyrics attributed to Wipo of Burgundy are actually joyous. One doesn't usually associate chant with faster tempos, but I felt the lyrics called for it, and thus used the Courante dance form from the Baroque era. You may take it a bit slower if you'd like. Verse Two I have set in a higher register alluding to the voice of Mary who first proclaimed the resurrection of Jesus.
