Product Description

English composer Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934) published Introduction and Allegro for Strings, Op. 47 in 1905. Scored for solo string quartet with string orchestra accompaniment, it is in a way a concerto grosso, with the string quartet serving as the concertino and the accompaniment serving as the ripieno. Initially the work received a lukewarm reception, but as time has gone by, it not only became more accepted as part of the repertoire but is now considered to be a work of considerable depth and quality.
