Product Description
KOKO factory (2020) was commissioned by saxophonist Papop Chaiprasert (his nickname is Koko) for his junior recital. He commissioned for 5-6 minutes soprano saxophone composition to be performed with piano, the liberty of choosing the music and the compositional style is given to the discretion of the composer. As this piece was commissioned to be performed in the commissioners recital, I wish to compose a piece that depicts his energetic and fun characteristic!
Prior to this composition, I have tried to incorporate various dance-like music in my compositions such as Thai traditional dance, polka, waltz, swing, latin, etc. During the period of composition, I became more and more interested in dance music and I wondered what it would be like to incorporate the dance music genre that is currently popular now in the piece.
Therefore in the KOKO factory, I composed music based on the inspiration of techno, EDM (Electronic Dance Music), and dubstep. The outcome of such attempts can be audible throughout the piece, the piercing sound of soprano saxophone to mimic the high-pitch synthesizer sound, the groovy bassline in the piano and the crazy dance-like music to depict Koko, the saxophonist who commissioned this piece. Overall, when I listened to the whole piece, the groove and rhythm made it sound as if I was walking in the factory with the sound of air pumps all over the place, hence the name KOKO factory.
KOKO factory was transcribed to Bassoon and Piano in 2023.
