Product Description

Gabriel Fauré's Pavane, Op. 50, was composed in 1887 and first published as an orchestral work in 1888, with a piano version following in 1889. In 1913, Fauré recorded a performance on a Welte-Mignon piano roll. This recording captures Fauré's personal interpretation of the piece.

The Welte-Mignon reproducing piano roll, a mechanical recording system from the early 20th century, captured not only the precise movements of the pianist but also the subtle nuances of dynamics and pedaling, enabling a lifelike reproduction of the performance.

While Pavane is typically performed at 84 beats per minute, Fauré is believed to have favored a faster tempo. Conductor Sir Adrian Boult, who heard Fauré perform Pavane on several occasions, recalled the composer playing it at no less than 100 beats per minute. This faster tempo is consistent with the piano roll recording.

The sheet music version of Pavane presented here strives to capture Fauré's original interpretation of the piece.
