Product Description

"Verchovino" is a folk-song much beloved by Ukrainian people. It comes from the village of that name, Verchovino, high up in the Carpathian Mountains, in Western Ukraine, on the Cheremosh River. "Verchovino" means "high place". It's surrounded by mountains. The verse is sung with huge passion, and the refrain with increasing excitement and joy, and when you know what the words mean, you understand why it's sung this way.
Verchovino, you're our whole world!
Hey, how pleasant it is to be here!
Like playful waters, time here does flow
Freely, rustling happily.
Oh, there is no place as you, Verchovino.
Oh, if I could only be there, For but just an hour!

I've written in the pronunciation, as near as I can get it, below the text.

I arranged this to sing at a fundraiser; Ukrainian refugees were arriving daily all around us and our hearts were breaking for them. I'm publishing it now in homage to the remarkable courage of the Ukrainian people.
