A quintet for 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba with a playing time of about 8:15. Three-movement format. The opening movement begins adagio and soon moves to a fast allegro that features a song-like melody over a very rhythmic background. Jazz harmonies prevail although the music is not jazz as such. The second movement is slow, and can't make up its mind about whether it wants to be a chorale or a march. You decide. The piece ends with a moderate allegro in 5/8 that presents some rhythmic challenges for the group.
