Perhaps the most achingly beautiful melody Jerome Kern ever wrote, Yesterdays was one of two great songs to come out of his 1933 musical Roberta (Smoke Gets In Your Eyes was the other). It was sung by Fay Templeton in the original Broadway production, and then by Irene Dunne in the first film adaptation (1935) and then by Kathryn Grayson in the 1952 remake, Lovely To Look At.

Yesterdays has been covered by a host of artists, including Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, The Four Freshmen, Billie Holiday, and Barbara Streisand, and two outstanding opera singers, Anna Moffo and Kiri Te Kanawa.
