Product Description

How often is it that a new piece by Mozart is discovered? -- and yet, in 2024, researchers at the Leipzig municipal libraries discovered this piece in its archives! It's a very beautiful piece, from the first movement containing 43 bars, to its over-arching 7-movement structure with not one but two minuets, and a very touching Adagio!

Having been the first to engrave the original trio composition from the facsimile parts (see the trio version here), I wanted to make a string quartet version, so that violists and string quartets don't have to sit this one out. I have made a few editorial decisions about spurious notes, missing bowings and dynamics, and some parts have been changed at various points to make the viola more welcome. For convenience of digital tablet players (and anyone who dislikes page turns), I have "written out" the "da capo" endings on all of the minuets.
