YANKADI I wanted to compose music that explored an ostinato rhythm, especially from West Africa. I researched YouTube videos about rhythms and learned about the Yankadi rhythm from Guinea. This rhythmic figure is played on hand drums for courtship gatherings. So, I applied this rhythm to a string quartet. Autumn Maria Reed, composer.
