Arrangements were common practice in the Baroque period, as they were intended to express the appreciation of a particular composition. On the other hand, works were transcribed into duet form, for example, in order to be able to offer popular compositions to a wide circle of music lovers for playing music at home.

The London publisher John Walsh (1665 - 1736) was particularly active in this field and we have him to thank for many chamber music editions.

Following this tradition, I have made a selection of pieces from George Frideric Handel's The Messiah for two treble recorders in the present edition.
