About the Composer:
Sir Julius Benedict, known as Jules Benedict, was a German-born composer and conductor who spent most of his career in England. Born on November 27, 1804, he was the son of a Jewish banker and received a thorough grounding in music from his studies with Hummel and Weber. His career began in 1823, and he composed several notable operas, including 'The Gipsy's Warning' and 'The Lily of Killarney'. Benedict was knighted in 1871 and played a significant role in popularizing classical music in the 19th century.
