Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard wrote this soon-to-become jazz standard in 1925 and Bernie recorded it for the first time the same year with his Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra. There's some story about inspiration coming from a Georgia politician who sired a daughter, and the state legislature passed an act requiring him to name the girl "Georgia" (hence "Georgia named her.") Right.
The song is probably best known as the one that played whenever the Harlem Globetrotters took the court.
