Valsa para Sofia is dedicated to my first very little cello student in Brazil. Sofia was the happiest and most adorable 3-year-old little cellist, always ready to learn with joy and excitement. She is now a lovely 9-year-old cellist, and we continue working together remotely. She has developed to be a beautiful cello player and has been doing amazing things with her cello, while keeping the joy and open heart children have when learning new things.

This piece is a homage to all my students: the current ones, the ones I started when they were little, the ones I prepared to go to college, and all the students I had the privilege to guide through their musical journeys in my life. Being part of their lives inspired me and keeps
inspiring me to be a better person, teacher, and musician.

This short waltz portraits the journey of a young musician: starting by plucking their strings, evolving to playing simple melodies, to then being able to play more complicated material, but always keeping the lightheartedness children have and their love for making music. My wish is that this piece will spread joy, love and hope to young musicians and audiences!
