Product Description
Atrahente (or Attractive in English) exemplifies the interwoven polka and choro rhythms often found in the music of Francisca "Chiquinha" Gonzaga, one of Brazil's most prolific composers. This melody of hers, with expressive melodies and technical runs, is a great fit for a soloist looking to be challenged.
The solo flute is accompanied and supported by 4-mallet marimba. I chose marimba over piano for this arrangement as the marimba's warmth and percussiveness greatly contribute to the feel of the piece.
The soloist is encouraged to take liberties at each of the fermatas, and should treat the Andante section as a quazi-cadenza. This is certainly not a rigid piece of repertoire with only one way it can be played.
Difficulty is advanced, and reaches up to a high A.
