Carousel is flexibly scored in up to seven instrumental parts. The piece attempts to evoke the motion and momentum of a fairground merry-go-round. This work is texturally cumulative as each of the 7 parts is added in turn, in crescendo, until the whole ensemble is playing and repeating, in a series of contrasting, but related musical figures. The simplicity of the piece's concept belies the increasing complexity of the music. Note: this document is the score (includes transpositions). The set is also available by searching via the COMA Music Library. No audio track is provided due to the flexibility and variability of the work.
