Product Description

Jalousie
Jalousie is a tango composed by Danish composer Jacob Gade in 1925.  There are two main themes in the composition.  The first is a temperamental theme in D minor followed by a lyrical section in D major.  Gades composition has two sources of inspiration.  The first was by a violent thunderstorm that surprised him one day while he was out on a walk.  The other source of inspiration came from a jealousy murder, which was much talked about in those days, and was reported in the newspapers.  The first performance was set for September 14, 1925, and Gade himself played the opening violin cadenza of the tango. About the Arrangement
This arrangement is written for concert band, but retains the original keys of the music (D minor and D major).  The opening cadenza has many options available for performance.  The score and parts have the complete cadenza split between the flute and clarinet parts and keep it within a more comfortable range on each instrument.  Other options include extra solo parts with the entire cadenza written for Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, and Violin.  If using these parts, the none soloist Flute 1s and Clarinet 1s should only play the tutti parts until the end of the cadenza.
