Product Description
A setting of a prayer attributed to St Columba:
"Be thou a bright flame before me,
Be thou a shining star above me,
Be thou a smooth path below me,
Be thou a kindly shepherd behind me,
Today, tonight and evermore. Amen."
The opening has the four parts in slow-moving homophonic chords, with at least two parts staying the same between each pair of chords, so it's very easy to stay in tune and find your note. "Today, tonight and evermore" is set as a 4-part canon, simple to pick up and not going too high or low, which develops back to a final "Amen" where the slow chordal shifts return. Entirely diatonic with no accidentals, but sounds fresh and more difficult than it actually is!
This piece is SATB, no divisi, and should be suitable for most sacred occasions. It can be sung a cappella, or with light piano/organ doubling.
Ranges:
soprano Db4 to F5
alto Ab3 to Db5
tenor Db3 to Db4
bass Gb2 to Db4
