Product Description

"DEATH" for solo piano, by Dom Waldock.

This piano piece is directly inspired by Terry Pratchetts depiction of the character Death from his fantasy Discworld novels. He is portrayed visually in a similar way to many other personifications in literature: as a skeleton in a hood and cloak carrying a scythe. His personality, however, is more comical and he has a particular fascination with humanity.

Within this composition we hear the introduction of Death with the sound of funeral bells, replicated by long and slow notes low in the pianos range. The harmony is dissonant and unnerving as the supernatural being strolls through his realm.
The music soon takes a turn to a mid-register melody to represent the mortal world and the death of a loved one, embellished with high-pitched arpeggios to suggest the approach of something magical. Eventually Deaths chimes and the mortal being meet and their themes are intertwined, as the reaper leads them out of this world and into the next. They fade off into the distance and all we are left with is the lonesome ring of the funeral bells.
