Verbovaya Doschechka is a well-known old Ukrainian folk song. At the outset of the war in 2022, Mark and Maggie O'Connor participated in an online-performance of Verbovaya Doschechka with members of the Kyiv Symphony recording their violin parts from basements turned bunkers attempting to shield themselves from Russian missiles. Mark and Maggie were so moved by this musical experience and the beauty of this piece of music that Mark O'Connor arranged it for two violins to honor the hopes and safety of the Ukrainian people on their album Life After Life.
