Product Description

Scored for two Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone and Baritone Saxophone. There are alternative parts for Alto Saxophone Three and Four (Tenor and Baritone) so that it can be played by four Altos. The Merry Peasant was written by Schumann in 1848 when it was included in the first part of his Album for the Young which was written for his three daughters. These comparatively easy pieces were intended to be played by children or by beginners. It is often now given the more contemporary title of The Happy Farmer which is used for this publication. The style and the major key evoke a sense of a rural worker returning from the fields at the end of the day in a good mood. The melody inspired the song Red Wing (1907) and it was used in the underscore of the film, The Wizard of Oz.
