Product Description

Piano Quartet played by Frith Piano Quartet. 28:32 minutes
Benjamin Frith (piano), Richard Jenkinson ('cello), Robert Heard (violin), Louise Williams (viola).

The work is in a single movement and is basically a four-sectioned structure:

Fast - Scherzo - Slow- Fast. In other words, a fairly normal formal layout. However, there are additions to this scheme in the form of a 'moderato' which, in its various versions, opens and closes the work as well as being a sort of 'glue' which joins the main sections together. This gives the overall shape of: Moderato - Allegro - Moderato - Scherzo - Moderato - Lento - Moderato - Allegro - Moderato. Each moderato is a variation of the original one heard at the outset of the piece.
First performance by the Frith Quartet at the Fishguard Festival in 1012. The recording was made in 2014.
