Preface.
Tongue in Cheek is a composition based on the idea of instruments competing to play
the tune, with each of the instruments continuously moving between each other to try
and predict one melody. The accompaniment is made up of three different ideas; each
idea comes back with either a variation, or a new melody. This piece was inspired by
the use of the offbeat rhythms, as well as pentatonic passages. By the end of this
piece, the instruments work together to resolve the same melody and bring the piece
to a conclusive end.
