'The Merry Blacksmith' is a lively Irish reel that's great fun to play. It's well-known and loved and is played across the world in pubs, on stage and at Irish music sessions. It is a great reel for beginners and experts alike.

History: This reel was first recorded in 1915 by Brooklyn accordion player John Kimmell. Another version of this tune, titled "Gigue à Tit noir" was first recorded by Isidore Soucy in Montreal in 1929. This reel has been particularly popular. with versions of it being played in Ireland, the British Isles and North America.
