Grey Dawn is a haunting, secular ballad arranged for SATB divisi, a cappella. Performance duration is approximately 4:30. The text juxtaposes the bleak, icy grip of a winter landscape with the slow journey to heal the ache of a broken heart. With rolling cascades of melodic vocal harmonies and textured images that culminate in powerful refrains, the piece leads the listener through the darkness, and ultimately to a bright and hopeful future.

Dr. Lorinda Wright originally created Grey Dawn as a lovely acoustic folk ballad written and arranged for 3-part vocal harmony and acoustic guitar.
