I composed this song as a tribute to my piano instructor Yiyi Ku. Yiyi is an exceptionally gifted concert pianist and instructor. Most of her students range from the age of 4 to 18 years old and they all perform beautifully thanks to her expert instruction. I am still a work in progress in the performance category. I have been taking piano lessons from Yiyi since November 12, 2012 and I have learned so much from her. I never would have been able to write something like this had we not worked on the compositions of Bach, Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart. My prerequisites for this song were that it had to have some polyphony, be positive and uplifting, and begin with her name in note form. (e e) I tried to capture a piano teacher's experience in teaching a student through the years until they are ready to "fly" on their own. The first part of this song has modules simulating instructor and student interaction. Then it all comes together in some unifying arpeggios followed by a celebratory cadence signifying the student has achieved success! The end is a sweet reminiscence of the bond that was formed as teacher and student say goodbye for now. In honor of Yiyi I will give at least $1 to the Humane Society for the protection of animals for every song that is purchased. "Back to School 2015"
