This document is an instructional unit in the MIW Basic Keyboard Skills Method. It provides continued instruction, focusing on the basic patterns making up simple melodies. Several different aids are provided to help students learn the names of the white keys and their orientations to the black keys.

Because the the key diagrams identify the 12 key identical octave groups by color, and because the 12 notes and piano keys in each of the groups are identical (from group to group), students easily learn to play the exercises in this unit notated in all 4 of the octave groups at the middle of the piano.
