John Paul Jones is a full-length stage musical by Scottish composer Julian Wagstaff, with music and lyrics by Julian Wagstaff and book by Julian Wagstaff and Joel Jenkins.
The show tells the remarkable true story of the son of a gardener from Scotland, who became a hero of the American Revolution as the "father of the American navy". It is an uplifting, exciting and thought-provoking show. Joness tale is one of triumph and adventure, love and loss, and the effect of one mans consuming ambition on those closest to him - with great music and a riveting storyline.
For the first time ever, the complete orchestral score is available to purchase from this site - every single number from the 2010 concert version of the show, as performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Consort of Voices, conducted by Simon Hanson.
To date, John Paul Jones has enjoyed two highly successful productions: the 2001 community production presented by The Freedom Company, and the professional concert production of 2010, produced in association with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The 2010 production was presented at Edinburgh's Queen's Hall, to an enthusiastic response.
