This prelude, composed after World War II by the great master of counterpoint Charles Koechlin, sounds extremely modern: using a pure Eolian mode in D without chromatic alterations, it anticipates by half a century the expressiveness and style of composers such as Sakamoto, Zimmer, Hisaishi, Pärt, revealing a noble romantic beauty in a neoclassical language. Here my arrangement for Woodwind Quintet, also available for String Quartet.
