Product Description

H.P. Takes Five is a cheeky take on Henry Purcells famous trumpet tune. Instead of 4/4 time, its in 5/4, with a few 7/4 measures thrown in for a bit more fun! Purcell (165995) wrote much incidental music for plays and so-called semi-operas performed in Londons theaters, and often included a trumpet tune as a signal for the next act. A trumpet was the only instrument that could be heard above the noise of the audience! This is the wind quintet adaptation of the arrangement originally written for brass quintet. The lead moves around the parts and so this is indicated to make sure that the appropriate line remains prominent. Pay attention to all the tenuto and staccato marks. Make sure that the ff in measures 26, 42, 52, and at the end are as loud as you can get them without overblowing. The fluid lines of the lyrical middle section will test your powers of concentration.
