Product Description

A short piece (about one minute) based on a lively Italian folk dance.
Key:  E minor
Meter:  6/8
Tempo:  Vivace (but effective at just about any tempo)
First Violin highest note:  G6 (approached scale-wise, eighth note)

If you're looking for Italiano, this is it!  For its simplicity, it has plenty of drama, and the driving pulse under the lively melody has kept this a favorite of pianists young and old for centuries.  I couldn't help but arrange it for strings!

The pizzicato markings may be ignored (as in the audio sample provided by Online Audio Converter.com), but I enjoyed the texture they give the piece.  Most of the work is done by the first violin, and the other members act as a rhythm section.

I would choose this piece for a Halloween party--it's minor key with strong dominant sections fit perfectly in the "sneaky" and "spooky" genres when performed slow to medium tempo.  Up tempo, it's evocative of Ichabod Crane's flight from the Headless Horseman, or Mr. Toad's madcap ride.  I might even vary the tempo, and play it through more than once.

As a pianist, with only hobbyist experience on violin, I'm always eager to get feedback from string players on the pieces I write for them.  Please e-mail any comments or questions to me at klazzkeys@aol.com.
