This exciting two-movement piece for one piano, four hands is inspired by the region of Brittany (Bretagne), France. The first movement, "Plougastell," is a lively original dance tune (with a more lyrical middle section) written to honor and evoke the idyllic Breton commune of Plougastell-Daoulaz. The second movement, "Mouezhioù an Amzer Dremenet (Voices of the Past)," is a dynamic medley of four well-known Breton folk tunes that interact playfully as they build to the final dramatic flourish. Program notes included. Composer's note: I wrote these movements as Mother's Day gifts for my mother Rae Anne Tyra in 2017 and 2019. We still enjoy playing them together.
