This musical setting of the Catholic Memorare prayer incorporates as much as possible the full
traditional English language text. The omissions within, and changes of
sequence among, the phrases of the original prose are due to poetic, metrical,
and musical considerations. In other words, a faithful representation of the
prayers meaning is substantially present in this setting. Historically, the
invocation of Mary has very early origins among Christians, with the Memorare prayer having roots in the sub tuum prayer of the 3rd century
Coptic Church.
