These 22 arrangements of familiar traditional melodies offer many little technical challenges to the young pianist. Woven into the texture are scalic, arpeggio and chordal passages, patterns of parallel fourths, wide leaps, hand crossings, staccato passages and areas where both hands play in the same clef simultaneously. In addition, there are ornaments, interesting rhythms, Alberti bass and imitation. A suggested use of the sustaining pedal in one piece adds more colour, while the employment of a wide range in some other pieces assists in mastering the geography of the keyboard. Playing musically and capturing the "spirit" of each piece is always the goal.
