Product Description
Bachs music was always a source of inspiration for Villa-Lobos, and the series
of 9 Bachianas Brasileiras reliably illustrate the influence that the German great
composer had on his music. From this series, the Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5
for soprano and eight cellos tops Villa-Lobos most popular works list.
The original form of the Aria (Cantilena) is AABA. For this arrangement I have
produced an ABA version of the work, and have added a second solo soprano
in the second section A. I have resisted the temptation to do a mere transcription
of the original material, and rather have tried to reflect the almost guitar-like
texture that the eight cellos produce; other times I have varied the bass line
in such a way that it is more cantabile and less acrobatic.
