He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. Presented here is a Canzona published around 1615 for 12 brass divided into 3 choirs. A variety of substitute parts are also included to handle the trombone and trumpet parts with French horns and tuba. One of Gabrielis most beautiful works with a wonderful chorale melody interspersed with trumpet calls and antiphonal effects. A great piece for larger brass ensembles.
