Product Description
Suite do Vale was initially composed for a Young Symphony Orchestra in 2012. In 2017, it was re-orchestrated for Symphonic Band by the composer. In the same year, the piece was among the finalists of the WASBE Composition Contest in the "Educational" category and had its first audition on July 19, 2017, in the concert hall of TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht / Neederlands) with the Orchestra of the Dutch Customs under the conductor Björn Bus.
The piece was based on 4 folk songs from the region of the "Jequitinhonha", state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. These themes were taken from the book "Cancioneiro do Jequitinhonha", a compilation of themes from the region by musicologist Daniel Magalhães:
The movements:
Toque de Mastro (mast music): a festive theme that represents the opening or annunciation of religious festivals of the interior represented by rituals with flagpoles
Dois Engenho (two mills): a typical representation of the sounds of cane mills moved by oxen
Veizin Cansado (little old man): represents the calm and quiet life of the little old men who live in the small villages of Brazil
Carvão Queimou (coal burned): representing the heat and danger of the workers with the handling of the coal kilns.
