To Melbournes surprise (and tremendous relief) he is miraculously granted salvation. The experience deeply humbles and transforms the plague rat. For the first time Melbournes eyes are opened to the wonders and miracles that have always surrounded him but which had, until this moment gone unnoticed. Melbourne resolves to change his wicked ways and to use his talent for storytelling to persuade other plague rats to change their ways as well.
