Product Description

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed the Horn Quintet in E flat major, K. 407, in 1782 for horn soloist and friend Joseph Leutgeb who also inspired Mozarts four symphonic horn concertos. Indeed Mozarts Horn Quintet is sometimes considered to be more comparable to a horn concerto than a chamber work. However, while the horn is clearly the featured instrument, there is a strong interplay between the violin (in this transcription, the first trumpet) and the horn solo. This transcription for brass quintet not only gives the horn and first trumpet soloistic opportunities but provides the second trumpet, trombone and tuba opportunities to showcase their musicianship, covering moving lines assigned to the strings in the original work.

This transcription is of the concluding Allegro movement of the Horn Quintet, which is a lively rondo, playful but always elegant, culminating in a series of fanfares that bring the piece to a rousing close.

This work is written for Horn in E. An transposed part for Horn in F is also provided with this arrangement.
