Product Description

The Eight Station of The Cross - Jesus Comforts the Women of Jerusalem for solo piano, is the eight movement of a prayerful devotion on The Stations of the Cross, referring to the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. The music is characterized by recurring themes that appears in other movements of the entire piano cycle of 15 pieces or movements entitled The Stations of the Cross for Solo Piano by John Cartée.

This movement opens with a soft hymn. The tonal aspect contains a tight texture reminiscent of a hymn but moving seamlessly between complimentary keys. I selected a hymnal style because Jesus is offering comfort to the women in the full knowledge that Jerusalem would, in their or their children's lifetime be destroyed by the Romans, and that all Jews would be exiled or killed. It is ironic that the women weep for Jesus in this part of Christ's Via Crucis because Jesus weeps for them in his heart.

The Theme of The Trinity (three ascending notes presented in movements 4 & 7) is now heard in a minor key. This theme becomes more embellished and dramatic before the hymn returns. The theme is presented in the lower register with rippling right hand accompaniment and the hymn returns yet again representing how Jesus would always remain a healer even when being tortured himself.
