This arrangement of J. S. Bach's chorale from Cantata #147 is especially appropriate for Holy Week, specifically Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, with original lyrics speaking of St. Peter's denial: "Ere the morning rooster cried, I my Savior thrice denied". The passion of the story is enhanced by setting the traditional melody against an accompaniment retaining the classical style of the familiar but shifted primarily to the relative minor key.
