Product Description

On A Clear Day has been sung by all the great singers since it was written in 1965. This great standard sits well in many settings. On this occasion, I have chosen to arrange it with an easy swing feel. Just a little faster than a groove. Check the metronome marking. The importance of the tempo is not so much for the band as for the vocalist. The tempo needs to sit well for the vocalist. This song tends to stretch the vocal range a little, so I have given some alternate notes for the vocalist to use if needed. As always, the articulation, dynamics, blend, balance and cut-offs, etc are all important, in making this a swingin experience. A special reminder to exaggerate the forte piano/crescendo in bars 65 and 67. The drum part has a lot of front-line cues written on it. The drummer should not get bogged down trying to catch them all. In fact, the drummer should learn the chart by heart and not use the part when performing. This will free him/her up so that they can concentrate on helping the band swing. This chart will work extremely well as an instrumental solo feature. The optional solo parts are supplied. If the lead trumpet player finds the last note difficult to lay, play the "C#" Concert note instead.
