OUR NATIONS ANTHEM The Star Spangled Banner Every Band Director is entrusted with the fundamental instillation of the importance of our Nations Anthem to not only the musicians under his or her direction but also the audience that often varies from a concert to a community gathering and often times a sporting event. As the lives of Americans get busier and busier perfect instrumentation at the aforementioned venues increasingly becomes more of a challenge to maintain the integrity required of any performance of the Star Spangled Banner. This arrangement will sound great with almost any instrumentation! By over exaggerating the dotted rhythms with double dotted ones, orchestrating in a more block format, voicing the instruments in the strengths of their respective ranges, and natural kinesthetic design, framing the graceful middle section played by the mid-high woodwinds with the low voices, having the battery role through the fermatas, bringing the brass back in to reinforce the powerful lyrics and ending with an open chord heavily ringing the fifth for pride and power gives this arrangement the potential to become the new standard for high school concert and pep bands regardless of instrumentation. You will notice that the middle section is quite playable and lyrical and is almost rudely interrupted by the trombones proudly heralding that the flag was still there!!! resulting in an energizing finish for the U.S.A. is, The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave!
