Product Description
This 3-minute unaccompanied trumpet piece could be included with other solo pieces within a graduate or professional recital. It could also function as a 'surprise' encore in a more conventional solo recital or chamber music concert. The following program note was provided at the first performance.
This piece has several types of pitch derivations /
organizations packed into a short amount of time. Isorhythm, which involves rotation of the
same pitches and rhythms, was found to be suitable for the first section,
eventually giving way to a symmetrical chord which of course can only be
presented melodically. The rhythms here
are free. Inevitably these two types of
music are in conflict as the melodic chord takes over. Sometimes a wheeling
structure intervenes, functioning as a transition from one type to the other.
The melodic chord is initially presented with the
decoration of timbral trills. Later in the piece the trumpeter is asked to
emphasize the symmetry of the melodic chord by moving in prescribed ways.
