Product Description

This 8-minute choral work in three movements is a setting of a passage in a Buddhist Sutra (the Sutra on the Buddha of Infinite Life, also known as the Larger Sukhavativyuha Sutra). The protagonist, Dharmakara by name, made vows to his buddha (the Buddha referred to here) by the name of Lokeshvararaja in the remotest past. It was by fulfilling his vows to save all beings that Dharmakara was transformed into the Buddha known as Amida or Amitabha. The music is completely tonal and uses simple rhythms and melodies, accessible to a good amateur choir. Two soloists each are needed for soprano, alto, tenor and bass passages.
