Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) is considered by many to be the greatest classical composer in Latin America. He composed a vast work for diverse instrumental formations, always making clear, through his writing, the various popular musical languages that he had the opportunity to experience.
His work for solo guitar is a separate chapter in his large repertoire. An excellent guitarist, Villa-Lobos brings a true and factual knowledge of the possibilities offered by the guitar as an instrument for concerts and recitals. His five preludes (in fact six, the last one having been lost), dedicated to his wife Mindinha, are examples of this deep technical and musical knowledge that the composer had in relation to the instrument and his full musical maturity in the conception of these works.
Here we have an arrangement, an adaptation, of the Fourth Prelude to be performed by a Viola Solo.
